The Department of English congratulates Saeed Karimi-Aghdam on his promotion to Professor of English Applied Linguistics and Didactics. Since joining Nord University in 2019, Professor Karimi-Aghdam has taught courses in English linguistics, English didactics, second language acquisition, English teaching methodology, and research methods at both BA and MA levels. His research encompasses Vygotskian sociocultural theory (SCT), dynamic systems theory (DST), and English didactics\/TESOL.<\/p>

In its evaluation, the expert assessment committee emphasized the significance of his theoretical contributions. While his work is rooted in second language acquisition and applied linguistics, the committee noted that \u201chis engagement with SCT and DST reveals considerable expertise in philosophy and psychology.\u201d<\/em> They further remarked that his deep understanding of both traditions is rare, placing him among a \u201csmall, distinguished cadre of language scholars.\u201d<\/em> The committee also highlighted his use of dialectical logic as a meta-theoretical tool for examining SCT and DST, describing it as a meaningful contribution to theoretical dialogue in the field.<\/p>

Professor Karimi-Aghdam has published in leading journals such as Human Development<\/em>, Written Communication<\/em>, Integrative Psychological and Behavioral Science<\/em>, and Applied Linguistics<\/em>. He serves on the editorial boards of Language and Sociocultural Theory<\/em> and the Journal of Applied Linguistics and Applied Literature: Dynamics and Advances<\/em>, reviews for international journals, and regularly presents at major conferences including AAAL and BAAL.<\/p>

At Nord University, his research-informed teaching is highly valued by students. His teaching career spans Iran, Finland, and Norway, and he holds professional teaching certifications in Norway, Finland, and the UK. He has supervised MA students in Norway and Finland, co-supervises a PhD project in Finland, and has contributed to doctoral supervision training. He has also examined MA and PhD theses. His pedagogical expertise is supported by advanced training in university pedagogy, teacher education, professorial development, and PhD supervision. In addition, he has delivered guest lectures and invited talks in the USA, across Europe, and in West Asia.<\/p>

Looking ahead, Professor Karimi-Aghdam is involved in several ongoing projects, including research on L2 motivation in Norway with former MA students, work on the philosophical foundations of mixed-methods research in applied linguistics, and the development of an edited volume on English didactics in the Nordic region in collaboration with a colleague from the University of Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4. Since joining Nord University in 2019, Professor Karimi-Aghdam has taught courses in English linguistics, English didactics, second language acquisition, English teaching methodology, and research methods at both BA and MA levels.
