International platform for aquatic host-microbiota research and collaboration
The International Fish-Microbiota Workshop (IFMW) brings together researchers working across the interfaces of microbiology, immunology, nutrition, ecology and aquaculture biotechnology. IFMW aims to advance mechanistic understanding of host–microbiota interactions in aquatic organisms and their applications for sustainable aquaculture and fish health.

Scientific Themes
- Host-microbiota interactions
• Microbiome multi-omics
• Fish mucosal immunology
• Human disease modeling using fish sytems
• Aquaculture nutrition and probiotics
• Sustainable aquaculture health strategies
About IFMW
The IFMW was established in 2017 to promote scientific exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration in the emerging field of fish-associated microbiota research.
Following five successful editions, IFMW is evolving toward a more structured international initiative supported by an expanding scientific and steering committee. The platform aims to foster collaboration across microbiology, immunology, nutrition, ecology, biotechnology and aquaculture sciences, while supporting the integration of mechanistic and translational approaches in aquatic host–microbiota research.
IFMW seeks to provide:
- an international discussion platform,
- networking opportunities for early-career and senior researchers,
- scientific dissemination activities,
- and future collaborative initiatives within aquatic microbiome sciences.
