Located in Stjørdal, Norway, the Lånke facility is a unique combination of a NAF-operated driving practice track and a national motorsport venue. It serves as a critical hub for driver education, vehicle testing, and motorsport events, including the FIA World Rallycross Championship.
The NAF Øvingsbane Lånke offers a safe and controlled environment for practicing driving under challenging conditions such as ice, snow, and wet asphalt. It includes dedicated sections for braking, cornering, and hill driving. Meanwhile, the adjacent Lånkebanen motorsport circuit supports high-performance testing and competitive racing, making the entire site ideal for both practical training and advanced research.
NORD University is just 10km away from Lånkebanen and it has a strong and well-established connection with Lånkebanen, both for research as well as for education: in fact, all the students at NORD can benefit from the circuit to perform tests on field and experience the SKØB – Safety Course on Test Track (Sikkerhetskurs på ØvingsBane).
Potential Research Applications
- Driver Behavior in Low-Friction Conditions
Study how drivers react to loss of traction, ABS activation, and emergency maneuvers on icy or wet surfaces. - ADAS System Validation
Test and calibrate systems like traction control, lane keeping assist, and emergency braking in real-world scenarios. - Human Factors and Risk Perception
Analyze how drivers perceive and respond to hazards in simulated and real slippery road conditions. - Vehicle Dynamics and Control Algorithms
Use the mixed-surface rallycross track to test vehicle behavior under extreme acceleration, braking, and cornering.
