General Description
The SimEASY by AV Simulation is a compact and versatile driving simulator designed for non-racing studies. This simulator offers a comprehensive, ready-to-use solution, ideal for research laboratories that require a reliable and realistic driving simulation tool. It is mounted on wheels with brakes, making it easily transportable and positionable and the setup in TRAFIKKLAB is with the right-drive configurations.
The visual experience is enhanced by three 43-inch Full HD LED monitors, providing an immersive and high-quality display, together with an active feedback system that includes a steering wheel with a nominal torque of 8 Nm, a maximum rotation of 900°, and adjustable angle and depth. Integrated paddle shifters and a 7+1 manual gear shifter, convertible to sequential mode, add to the realism. The pedals for clutch, brake, and accelerator offer manually adjustable passive feedback. The driving seat, made of genuine leather, is adjustable in both position and backrest angle, though it does not include a seatbelt. The system includes a seat vibrator to simulate car vibration and road surface roughness. Last, but not least, the SimEASY simulator is equipped with an additional touchscreen, perfect for performing research studies headed towards driving distraction, inattention, multitasking or investigating the recent trends of massive touchscreens in vehicle cockpits.
The SimEASY is powered by the SCANeR™studio simulation platform wich allows a complete definition of the simulated scenario: the terrain, weather, traffic conditions, vehicle performances, vehicle/infrastructure technologies, etc…
Research Areas
The SimEASY driving simulator is an invaluable tool for various research areas within a laboratory setting. It is particularly suited for studies on human factors, allowing researchers to analyze driver behavior under different driving conditions. This includes reaction times, decision-making processes, and the impact of various stimuli on driving performance. The simulator’s realistic feedback and immersive environment provide a controlled setting for these investigations.
In the development and validation of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), the SimEASY proves indispensable. Researchers can test and refine systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and emergency braking in a safe and controlled environment. The simulator allows for the replication of a wide range of driving scenarios, from urban traffic to highway conditions, ensuring comprehensive testing of ADAS functionalities.
Vehicle dynamics research also benefits significantly from the SimEASY. The simulator enables the study of vehicle behavior under different conditions, such as varying road surfaces, weather conditions, and driving maneuvers. This helps in understanding the interaction between the vehicle and the driver, leading to improvements in vehicle design and safety features.
The SimEASY’s versatility extends to educational purposes as well. It can be used for driver training programs, providing a realistic and safe environment for novice drivers to practice and improve their skills. Additionally, it serves as a valuable tool for public awareness campaigns on road safety, demonstrating the effects of distracted or impaired driving.
