The Words and Violence project analyses the democratic resilience and vulnerability of cultural life in the 1930s and \u201940s, using both statistical and qualitative approaches. The Norwegian experience is compared with that of other countries under fascist occupation during World War II, notably France. Focus is on the field of literature before, during and after the occupation. Researchers examine why writers, translators, and intellectuals made the choices they did, faced with censorship and terror, but will also explore a new kind of public investment in culture, orchestrated by the dictatorship. The aim is to produce solid knowledge about historical issues that are hotly debated and of obvious contemporary relevance, but that are rarely researched in a systematic way. Problems of memory politics and public history are emphasised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les mots et la violence : Les \u00e9crivains entre d\u00e9mocratie et dictature 1933-1952<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Les mots et la violence est un projet scientifique o\u00f9 la r\u00e9silience et la vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 d\u00e9mocratique de la vie culturelle dans les ann\u00e9es 1930 et 1940, seront analys\u00e9es, en utilisant \u00e0 la fois des approches statistiques et qualitatives. L\u2019exp\u00e9rience norv\u00e9gienne est compar\u00e9e \u00e0 celle d\u2019autres pays sous l\u2019<\/strong>occupation fasciste pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, et plus particuli\u00e8rement la France. L\u2019accent est mis sur le domaine de la litt\u00e9rature avant, pendant et apr\u00e8s l\u2019occupation. La question pos\u00e9e c\u2019est pourquoi les \u00e9crivains, les traducteurs et les intellectuels ont faits les choix qu\u2019ils ont faits, face \u00e0 la censure et \u00e0 la terreur, mais \u00e9galement face \u00e0 un nouveau type d\u2019investissement massif dans la culture, orchestr\u00e9 par la dictature. L\u2019objectif est de produire des connaissances solides sur des questions historiques qui font l\u2019objet de vifs d\u00e9bats et qui sont d\u2019une pertinence contemporaine \u00e9vidente, mais qui sont rarement \u00e9tudi\u00e9es de mani\u00e8re syst\u00e9matique. Les d\u00e9fis de la politique de la m\u00e9moire et de l\u2019histoire publique sont mis en \u00e9vidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
