September 2024 (On-going call): Announcement of Full-degree Master Students (up to 4 candidates) from Nepal for the NORSTIP Scholarship program at Nord University

Updates on the results of the interview:

Among the total of 28 applicants for positions, interviews of 14 potential candidates have been conducted. Based on the academic transcripts, the quality of the master thesis outline, the availability of a language test certificate, and the performance in the interview, the following four candidates have been selected for the NORSTIP scholarship (in priority order). Moreover, additional four candidates have been identified as alternate candidates if one or more of the selected candidates reject the scholarship offer (in priority order). The deadline for the acceptance of the position for the selected candidates is 24th October 2024, and they should do so by writing the confirmation of acceptance to the following email addresses: ceer@afu.edu.np, ceer@ku.edu.np, and prabhat.khanal@nord.no.

Currently, we are looking for applications from outstanding candidates from Nepal for full-degree master studies at the Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture (www.nord.no/en/fba), Nord University, Norway, under the NORSTIP scholarship program. The objective of this scholarship is to contribute to economic development and welfare in a list of partner countries in the global south.

Application deadline:
Applications must be submitted by the application deadline of 30th September 2024.

Publication of list of qualified candidates:
By 15th October 2024.

Interview and publication of list of successful candidates:
By 30th October 2024.
Then, the selected candidates will be provided complete guidance to formally apply through the Nord University application portal.

CEER Summer School on 20th – 22nd April 2024 (Registration ongoing)

The CEER hereby announces its first summer school that will be conducted in Chitwan, Nepal, on 20th – 22nd April 2024.

The CEER project aims to develop and implement new educational and research activities in alternative feeding strategies via global cooperation (staff and student mobility) to create a more productive, sustainable, and environment-friendly livestock industry in the future. The project primarily focuses on developing teaching methods and research activities on three major alternative feed sources: by-products and forest biomass, insects (utilizing bio-wastes), and underutilized aquatic plants. In this context, the CEER project announces its first summer school that will be conducted in Chitwan, Nepal, in April 2024. This unique event aims to create a mutual learning environment in the field of sustainability in livestock production by bringing the knowledge from students, researchers, industry personnel, and farmers into a common place.

October 2023: Announcement of Full-degree Master Students (up to 4 candidates) for the CEER project

The CEER project is looking for up to 4 full-degree master students. Applications must be submitted by the application deadline of 20th October 2023. Short-listed candidates will be called for an interview within a week after the deadline. The final results will be announced on 3rd November, 2023.

August 2023 (Students arrived at Nord University Norway for exchange or full-degree master programs)

√  Wang Pakhrin will be at Nord University for 6 months and will learn the principles and practices of gut microbiome data analysis.  

√  Aarati Upreti will study Master in Biosciences with a specialization in Terrestrial Ecology. 

√  Aakash Gupta will study Master in Biosciences with a specialization in Livestock Science. 

√  Nar Bahadur Thapa will conduct his Master thesis research within Aquaculture Production and Management. 

 

May 2023 (CEER team Nepal visited Nord University Norway)

√  The CEER project team from Nepal recently visited Nord University, Norway. The team included Prof. Bed Mani Dahal from Kathmandu University, Nepal, and Assoc. Prof. Sundar Tiwari, Assoc. Prof. Himal Luitel, and Assist. Prof. Ujjal Tiwari from Agriculture and Forestry University, Nepal. Project Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Prabhat Khanal, Animal Science, Production and Welfare Division leader Assoc. Prof. Geir Næss, and senior advisor Lars Iver Valstad welcomed the project team from Nepal at Nord University, Steinkjer. The project team also met FBA Dean Prof. Mette Sørensen, FBA Vice-Dean Prof. Kiron Viswanath, and FBA Director Jarle Jørgensen in Bodø. During the visit, the project team got to see Steinkjer and Bodø Campuses of Nord University, Mære Landbruksskole, NTNU Hydrolab, and also NTNU Smart Grid Laboratory. The CEER project had several meetings with project controller Marit Jendine Vik Bjørkmo. Assoc. Prof. Dahal, Assoc. Prof. Luitel, and Assist. Prof. Tiwari from Nepal also gave presentations about their universities and recent project activities in Nepal.

 The current livestock sector faces increased pressure to identify and utilize alternative and climate-friendly feeding resources in light of the rising human population and adverse climate change impacts. Our project entitled Establishing the Circular Economy-based livestock sector through collaborative Educational and Research activities (CEER; Project number: 2021/10345) aims to contribute toward self-sufficiency in the animal feed sector via joint educational and research activities between Norway and Nepal.  The CEER (https://site.nord.no/ceer/) is a circular bioeconomy-based project led by Nord University (https://www.nord.no/en), Norway, in collaboration with Kathmandu University (https://ku.edu.np/), Nepal, and Agriculture Forestry University (http://afu.edu.np/), Nepal. The project is looking for applications from outstanding candidates for full degree master studies at the Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture (www.nord.no/en/fba), Nord University, Norway.  The student must fulfill admission and language requirements for master degree in biosciences at Nord University as stated on the webpage:

The students should conduct their master theses in Nepal within the thematic areas of the project. All travel costs, living expenses, and research costs will be covered by the project.
