The research group on visit together with representatives of our research project partner Saemien Sijte to Illinois and Wisconsin. The purpose of the trip was to to learn and gain perspectives through visits to reservations and cultural centres and academic environments. The trips was organized and generously hosted by our partner and reference group member Professor Thomas A. Dubois of the University of Madison-Wisconsin.
At the Northwestern University, Chicago, we were met guided and befriended by Professor Reynaldo A. Morales from the Buffet Institute for Global Affairs and Medill School of Journalism.
Some highlights from the visit in Wisconsin:
- AIS 24th Annual Evening of Storytelling Traditional Feast hosted by the American Indian Studies program
- Visit to the College of the Menominee Nation in Keshena
- Feb. 6 Sámi National Day was celebrated at the Lac du Flambeau reservation, where we met with Wayne Valliere. Very inspiring to see how his pupils at the school played the traditional winter games of the Anishinabee.
