This year’s theme for “forskningsdagene” was “Hav”. On 30th September and 2nd October, Team NON-Fôr at Nord University was able to showcase “Framtidens laksefôr” (future salmon feeds). On Friday, i.e., for the “Nysgjerrigperdagen” held at Stormen, Florence Perera (Researcher connected to NON-Fôr, Nord), Nathaniel Wesley Farris (Ph.D. student connected to NON-Fôr, Nord), and Eyassu Ghebre (MSc student connected to NON-Fôr, Nord) interacted with the sixth graders from 6 schools of the Bodø municipality. The team informed the students about algal oil and insect meals that will be included in salmon feeds.
At “åpen bukt” also, during which the research station of Nord University was kept open for the general public, the NON-Fôr team was able to amaze the visitors with information about future feed ingredients. The team waited with salted crickets-incorporated chocolates, crispy bread with cricket powder and chilly crickets. Most of the kids and adults were very happy to taste the future protein-based foods. Some visited the NON-Fôr stall just to taste insect chocolates.
NON-Fôr team succeeded in communicating the research connected to the Nordforsk- funded project to the masses!
