The NON-Fôr project partners laid the foundation for the collaborative works proposed in the proposal. The project leaders or their representatives had the opportunity to present their contributions to the project. Trine Kastrup (Aarhus University) explained the tasks in WP1 wherein the protein quality will be the main focus. Aberham Feyissa (Technical University of Denmark), the leader of WP2 indicated that his team will be assessing different aspects connected to feed pellets and they will also perform rheology and modelling studies for the project. Shruti Gupta represented LetSea AS and she explained the company’s part in conducting the land-phase smoltification and the seawater-phase experiments as mentioned under WP3. Jelena Pubule from Riga Technical University presented WP4. They will conduct the assessment of both the sustainability and environmental performance of fish feed products. Malin Johansen from NCE aquaculture presented WP5. In NON-Fôr they will facilitate efficient communication between the project partners.
The industrial partners who will also be actively engaged in the NON-Fôr project participated in the kick-off meeting. Ole Torrisen represented the Ecoprot AS, which is a commercial producer of BSFL in Norway. Gabriel Ossenkamp from FjordAlg AS stated that they will provide natural astaxanthin (Haematococcus pulvialis) for WP2 and WP3. Ian Carr represented Veramaris, the algal oil provider for WP3. He gave some suggestions on additional tasks that can be included in WP3. Thomas Munk from Agro-engineering ascertained that he will support WP2 with his expertise in different aspects of feed formulation. Prabhat Khanal from Nord university will produce mealworms in collaboration with Invertapro AS. According to him, Invertapro has facilities to dry both BSFL and mealworms.
The information flow from one work package to the next and the interconnection between the work packages were clear from the presentations. The partners also discussed certain issues linked to the feed ingredients that will be employed in the feeds for Atlantic salmon.
