How to explain coral research in 4 minutes?

During the Forsker Grand Prix at Nord University 2026, our team member Birte Schuppe did exactly that – and did it impressively! In just four minutes, she showed us what fascinating creatures corals and sponges are, and how they actively shape their deep-sea environment as ecosystem engineers.

Although the Grand Prix final in Oslo was not the outcome this time, we are incredibly proud of Birte and her excellent presentation on how to measure coral reefs and sponge gardens. Congratulations, Birte, on a fantastic performance!

The well-deserved winners were Unn Siri Olsen and Malle Vogelsang – congratulations, and good luck in Oslo!
