Nord University’s English Department in Bodø, Norway is delighted to be affiliated with the international project Frankenreads, which is being organized by the Keats-Shelley Association of America.
The goal of Frankenreads is to bring together scholars, students, and fans from all over the world to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein: A Modern Prometheus, especially through live readings of the novel but also through other outreach events.
Nord University’s Frankenreads outreach includes public lectures, an online and in-library Frankenstein exhibition, a film night, a Halloween party, and an all-day read-a-thon of the novel on October 31. In addition, we’re co-editing a scholarly journal that will feature 9 new critical essays on Frankenstein from various critical perspectives. Our activities are sponsored by the Nord University Faculty of Education and Arts.
We were very pleased to have been approached by K-SAA to take part in this project, and we feel that we are making a unique contribution to this historic moment. The project’s aims speak strongly to our English Department’s interests in literary performance, student-centered activities, and research-based teaching.
