This part of the research will investigate maritime intelligent transport systems (ITS) and innovative logistics technologies and solutions that could be applied in Northern Norway.

We will also investigate the possibility for development of regional transport and logistics clusters (TLC), as network of key ports, intermodal terminals, and logistics services.

Several different approaches to logistical optimisation will be considered, such as cargo matching and the sharing of containers and load-units; combined freight and passenger transport on the same vessel; and the use of different fuel sources such as hybrid, LNG, hydrogen, ammonia, methanol and battery-powered vessels.

The result will be a proposal for a green maritime transport and logistics system serving the future needs of Northern Norway.
