- Life in the deep fjords: tracking benthic changes through time
by Henning ReissSince more than 12 years we are following benthic life in the fjord basins. Every year in spring we come back to the same six stations in the sub-Arctic Saltfjord and Skjerstadfjord and sample the fauna living in the cold mud. This week we are doing this on board of the research vessel ‘Prinsesse Ingrid… Read more: Life in the deep fjords: tracking benthic changes through time - Do anti-sea lice and anti-fouling agents stress cold-water corals?
by Henning ReissWe have just finished the first part of an experimental study with the cold-water coral Desmpophyllum pertusum. We exposed the corals to a combination of two chemicals commonly used in aquaculture – Azamethiphos (an anti-sea lice bath treatment) and Tralopyril (an new anti-fouling agent to prevent growth of organisms on farm nets). Our team led by Birte Schuppe, consists of Renate, Sara, Alia, Roraima and two internship bachelor students from… Read more: Do anti-sea lice and anti-fouling agents stress cold-water corals? - Changed menu for cod larvae?
by Henning ReissHow important are larvae of benthic species as a food source for fish larvae? This question is addressed in an experiment we are currently running within the MarFiLD project in collaboration with Akvaplan Niva in Tromsø. We know that young cod prefers to feed on the larvae of the most abundant plankton, Calanus copepods. But what… Read more: Changed menu for cod larvae? - Meroplankton Workshop MarFilD
by Henning ReissWe held a workshop on meroplankton identification at the fieldstation of Nord University, where Marc Silberberger (National Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Gdansk, Poland) gave an introduction about the diversity of meroplankton. In the project MarFilD we study seasonal and interannual changes of meroplankton in sub-Arctic fjords and assess how meroplankton may affect pelagic food webs.… Read more: Meroplankton Workshop MarFilD - Art project – Woman’s view of the Sea
by Henning ReissArt meets science was the overarching topic of the project ‘Woman’s view of the Sea’, where female artists got inspired by female marine scientists and their research. The art work from this project was presented in a first exhibition at Nord University in September 2024. The exhibition was part of the program of Bodø 2024… Read more: Art project – Woman’s view of the Sea
