For the sixth consecutive year, Bachelor of English has rated highest in overall student satisfaction among all similar disciplinary degree programs in Norway, according to the annual survey administered by the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (NOKUT). This survey, known as the “Study Barometer,” indicates strengths and weaknesses of the various degree programmes at Norwegian colleges and universities.
This year, not only did BAENG rate highest in student satisfaction, but also achieved top ratings in all 8 of the survey’s subcategories. Students had especially positive opinions of teaching, feedback, and motivation for learning, which speaks highly to the care that the teaching team for BAENG puts into academic quality and extracurricular engagement.
Such occasions deserve to be celebrated, and all Bachelor of English students were invited to a celebration hosted by the faculty on March 15. On hand to welcome and congratulate students was our newly-instated Dean, Prof. Rosemary Kate Martin, who came from our Levanger campus to mark the occasion. She was joined by the head of the faculty’s Language & Literature division, Dr. May Line Rotvik Tverbakk, and faculty office manager Gisle Pettersen.
During the celebration, at which cakes and fruits were served, Prof. Jessica Allen Hanssen explained the  significance of the survey’s results to the nearly 40 students and faculty in attendance. She stressed that not only did she see the results as indicative of high quality in many important areas, but that the results are especially important to graduating students as they make their next professional moves, as it looks well on them to have graduated from such a well-regarded program. Prof. Hanssen also shared some exciting news about upcoming class offerings (including a brand-new course in Literature and Film, this based on a student vote from 2022), and upcoming events.

“It is important to the Faculty that we have satisfied students. The studiebarometeret survey results for the BA English show top quality teaching and in turn a top-quality student experience.”

Congratulations to all Bachelor of English students, faculty, and administration!
