Meet dr. Astri Dankertsen the leader of the MINS Research Group.

Her research is mainly concerned with Sámi and Indigenous issues, where identities, urbanization, young people, colonization, and assimilation have been central themes.
Astri is currently leading a project financed by the Norwegian Research Council Norges forskningsråd on Indigenous homemaking in the past and present, where the focus is on homes and housing policies in Sámi and Greenlandic communities Indhome. She is also a part of two other projects, one on gender balance in higher education, and one on truth and reconciliation commissions in the Nordic countries.
Astri has recently received a grant to continue her work within the Læra Institute for Circumpolar Education https://laerainstitute.org/
Astri is active in local politics and is a city council member in Bodø. She also has two cats, Mini and Lunde 🐈‍⬛🐈 from Dyrebeskyttelsen, the local animal rescue organization in Bodø.
Fun fact:
Astri grew up mostly in Oslo, but since her dad worked in Bodø at the then university college, she was basically a “part time student” and “research assistant” here as a kid, sitting in the back of the auditorium, drawing pictures of all the students, and answering phone calls in her dad’s office.
Astri’s favorite color is red. May is her favorite month.
