Following the passing of our esteemed scientific coordinator, Professor Jon Øyvind Odland, on April 5th, the ArcSolution team has been working thoughtfully to ensure the continuity of leadership and scientific direction within the project. We are now pleased to announce that Professor Roland Kallenborn will take over as the new scientific coordinator of ArcSolution.
Professor Kallenborn brings deep expertise and a longstanding commitment to Arctic environmental science. He has been leading Work Package 5 (WP5) on environmental contaminant pathways, and he will continue in that role for the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). In addition, he will now also assume responsibility for Work Package 1 (WP1) and join the coordination team at Nord University, which will serve as his formal affiliation in his new role.
“We are very grateful to Roland for stepping into these key responsibilities at a challenging time for the project,” says the ArcSolution coordination team. “His leadership ensures scientific continuity and renewed momentum as we progress.”
Professor Kallenborn is recognised for his work on pollution in remote regions and the long-range transport of contaminants to the Arctic. In a recent interview, he shared insights into his interdisciplinary approach, which combines chemistry, ecology, and public health to address pollution challenges through locally adapted, sustainable strategies.
With decades of experience and a collaborative spirit, Professor Kallenborn is well-positioned to guide ArcSolution’s scientific work at a time when Arctic communities are facing increasingly complex environmental and health-related risks.
