About ArcSolution

The Arctic is experiencing rapid changes due to climate change and pollution from local and distant sources, impacting human life, wildlife, and ecosystems. ArcSolution takes a holistic “One Health” approach to address these challenges, integrating local and Indigenous knowledge with scientific research across four Arctic locations: Northern Finland, Svalbard, Northern Norway, and Greenland.

We focus on key pollutants like mercury, plastics, and pathogens, studying their effects on ecosystems and human health. Together with local communities, we develop solutions in the circular economy, technology, and chemical management. Our findings are shared with schools, policymakers, industry, and the scientific community to support sustainable actions for a healthier Arctic.

ArcSolution governance structure

Governance Structure

ArcSolution has a governance structure comprising three main groups, supported by a Quality and Ethical Board (QEB) and an External Advisory Board (EAB) for scientific input. The QEB and EAB focus on ethical standards, strategy, and project impact but do not manage ArcSolution directly. The main groups are:

  1. The General Assembly (GEA) is the highest decision-making body.
  2. The Executive Board (EXB) manages daily operations and implements the decisions made by the General Assembly.
  3. The Project Coordination Office (PCO) handles administration, management, and support.

Each Work Package (WP) has a designated leader from one of the partner organizations. These leaders coordinate and supervise the activities in their WPs and report to the Executive Board (EXB) and Project Coordination Office (PCO).

WP Leaders monitor progress, check if planned goals are met, assess risks, and suggest alternative plans when necessary. They regularly update the EXB on how their WPs are doing.

As part of the EXB, WP Leaders share important information with task leaders and team members within the WP. They hold regular online meetings to keep everyone informed about progress and developments.
