Julia Olsen is Associate professor in Environmental sociology at Nord University, a head of Joint Bachelor in Sustainable Blue Economy at Nord University, and a co-lead of the Arctic research group. My research is dedicated to the sustainable development of the Arctic region, focusing specifically on human-nature relations in the context of shipping and tourism development, marine pollution, and climate change. I am a member of the Young Academy of Norway, an interdisciplinary organization for young researchers dedicated to research policy and dissemination.

Dr Karl is a Research Scientist at SINTEF and specialises in the physical and analytical chemistry of polymers, with a particular focus on plastics in fisheries and aquaculture. He has expertise in the areas of polymer degradation, biodegradability testing and recycling, particularly about reducing microplastics and improving circular economy practices in marine environments. He has experience with numerous projects in the field of plastics for marine applications and leads Work Package 2, ‘Assessment of biodegradability – A framework for testing biodegradability and environmental impact’, of the SFI ‘Biodegradable plastics for marine applications’, which is led by Roger Larsen (UiT).
