RidEL 2024: Reading for in-depth English Learning:
Texts in and beyond the classroom
Overview:
RidEL 2024 aims to bring together English language and literature researchers and teacher educators to share their expertise and understandings with a common goal to promote research and practice in reading for in-depth learning in elementary, secondary, and tertiary settings. Involving language learners in children’s literature can promote critical literacy and in-depth learning for fuller engagement with the text, enabling learners to critically explore different cultural contexts, new perspectives and unfamiliar ideologies. Deep reading can foster empathy and interculturality, which are much needed for transformative learning and social justice.
The conference welcomes both research- and practice-oriented papers that address one of the following:
- Strand 1. Teacher education for in-depth English language learning with children’s literature
- Strand 2. Interculturality, diversity and critical literacy in English language learning with children’s literature
