MONITOR2024 FINAL CONFERENCE

“Long-term impacts of European Capitals of Culture (ECoCs), cultural related events and investments on the Socio-Economic Development: Examples from the Arctic and Sub-Arctic Regions”
November 25, 2025
09:00 - 16:00
Quality Hotel Ramsalt, Bodø

The conference will highlight the long-term impacts by showcasing the lasting socio-economic benefits of being designated as a European Capital of Culture (ECoC) and other cultural investments in Arctic and Sub-Arctic regions. We will share best practices by providing a platform for cities and regions to share their experiences, challenges, and successful strategies. Using a comparative analysis approach, the conference will discuss the experiences of previous ECoC cities in the Arctic/sub-Arctic regions—Umeå (2014) and Bodø (2024)—as well as the forthcoming expectations of Oulu (2026) and Kiruna (2029). Being organized right after the ECoC title year in Bodø (Bodø 2024), this conference presents a unique opportunity to receive firsthand knowledge about the short-term and potential long-term socio-economic impacts of Bodø 2024 ECoC.
